Brief Introduction

Dr Safdar Ali Abbasi is veteran of Pakistani politics. He has been elected to the Senate 4 times and has participated in politics almost all his life.

Education

Dr Safdar Ali Abbasi is a graduate of Aitchison College and followed the footsteps of his mother to study medicine. He is academically trained doctor, though he did not enter medical practice. He completed his education from Dow Medical College and joined politics.

Political Activities

He was a little boy when Begum Dr Ashraf Abbasi joined politics, and his student years were spent resisting Zia Ul Haq’s dictatorship. During this time he even spent a few years abroad when crackdown intensified. He was elected to Senate of Pakistan in 1994 and subsequently served three more times.

Following the assassination of Benazir Bhutto, Dr Safdar and his wife Naheed Khan saw their beloved party deteriorating. In those 5 years, due to lack of accountability and failure to find the killers of Benazir Bhutto, the duo parted ways with the party. Dr Safdar Ali Abbasi has participated in 2013 and 2018 General Elections.
